Ethan Maayan - Drums, vocals

Ethan Maayan was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, where he began 'beating' on the drums at the young-age of 8. His love for music was awakened when he started playing his older sister's Rock 'n Roll records, explaining-that; "After hearing Ringo’s drum-solo on the 'Abbey Road'-album... he was 'hooked'!"  The 'rock-band-gigs' began with his first-group "Infinity" at age 13, where Ethan found-himself performing at assorted; 'band-battles', block parties and school dances. He moved to New Jersey in in the '70s and graduated from Fort Lee High School in 1978.

Upon-receiving his high-school diploma, 'Mr. M' attended Jersey City State College as a Music Education Major, where he studied with respected-musicians, Nick Cerrato, Richard Derosa and Justin DiCioccio. At this time he also began playing the 'club-date'-circuit, with a variety of offices & bands including: 'No Turns', 'Boulevard East' and 'Four +1', as well as the venerable Hank Joel, Jason Craig and Hank Lane orchestras.

In 1990, Ethan studied at New Jersey University, where he earned a Master's Degree in Music Education. Returning to NJ-University in 1994 for another 'stint', he completed his second Master's Degree in Administration and Supervision. During this period he was the leader of the R&B / Funk band 'Face The Fax'... and was also 'The Ringo' in the Beatles-tribute band, 'Walrus'. Being the versatile musician he-is, Ethan also led and 'drummed' for 'The Nice -N- Easy Orchestra', a 16-piece Frank Sinatra / Big Band-tribute.

His passion for 'percussive-higher-learning' landed-him as a student, with many highly-touted musician / teacher / mentors, including: Akira Tana, Billy Drummond, Gary Chester, David Garibaldi, Frankie Malabe' and Jay Dittamo.

In 1992, Ethan embarked-upon his teaching career in Ridgefield, NJ starting a 9-year tenure as the school-system band-director, through 2001... They liked him SO-much, that they made him an assistant-principal for 4-more years, prior to the landing-of his current 'day-gig'; Principal of the James Fallon Elementary School in Wayne, NJ... a position he has held dating-back to 2002!

'The Big E' (as he is lovingly referred-to), launched his wedding / show band "Steppin' Out", in 1995; They still perform dozens of functions, annually! In addition to Steppin' Out, he continues to play with many other revered musical-groups, including 'The Duprees', 'The Drifters', 'The Infernos' and 'Holiday Express', as well as veteran-entertainers Louis Vanaria and Joe Piscopo!

Ethan lives in suburban Essex County with his wife and kids and STILL... is a "classic-rocker" at heart... He was introduced to 'The Kootz', through Russ Crapella (who also performs with Steppin' Out)... Ethan is as-thrilled to play all his favorite rock 'n roll tunes with 'The Kootz'... as THEY-are to have-him 'on-board'!
