Len Kirk - Drums, vocals

Len Kirk or 'Kirk' as he is known-by to some, is passionate about the drums! Music has been his 'driving force'… from the time he could listen to it… and as he's been 'honing his percussive-chops', all through life!

Born in Englewood 1970, Len spent his childhood in the idyllic-suburb of Montville, New Jersey, where at age 7, he picked-up his first pair of drumsticks… and spent his musical 'Wonder Years' 'cutting his teeth' on such rockin'-influences as Kiss, Missing Persons, Pat Benatar and Toto…

Upon graduation from Montville High School, in 1989, Lenny's 'musical-sojourn' whisked him 'off to see the world', travelling relentlessly, under all sorts of adverse-conditions to perpetually 'seek the gig'… and he's never looked-back! From 'one-horse-one-nighters', out on the 'frozen-fringe-of-nowhere'… to major-label private-showcases for the 'suits' at Epic, Sony, and Columbia Records, he's done-it and seen-it all!

One moment stands-out in Len's travels, as he recalls a 'memorable brush with musical-greatness', that occurred when he met his rock-hero Gene Simmons, back in the early 90's, at the long-gone NYC rock-icon 'The Limelight'!

'Kirk' has enjoyed 'taking the drum-throne' with many great-acts along the way, playing all over New York and New Jersey with “Where’s Mary" and cover-bands like "Dirty Sanchez", "Good Girls Don't" and "Blasted", as well as 'fellow-Koot' Keith Theall's 'R & B-alter-ego', "Soul Groove".

In the fall of 2010, 'Keeef'… introduced 'Kirk'… to 'Kootz'! Ironically, Len's accordian-playing dad, Jerry was already performing along with original-(and still)-Koot bassist Ben Asher for several years in a Klezmer-band, 'The Nudniks'… The 'Kootz-Konnections' run deep… Oy!

Today, heavily-influenced by 'stick-wielding-greats' Jeff Porcaro, Bernard Purdie, and Abe Laboriel Jr., Len says, "It's all about the 'groove' between the bass and the drums… and playing 'for the song'! I take nothing for granted… and I am also extremely-grateful to all of the friends and fans who have come-out to support my shows over the years. Of course, I don't intend to stop any time soon"…

'The Kootz'-members, as well as 'The Kootz-Nation' surely hope-not!

Len is happily married and the father of two great kids… When he's not 'rockin'… He's 'rollin'… in his vintage Corvette; perhaps travelling… or just-plain hangin' with the family!
